Vietnam and China should cooperate to combat Covid-19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has told his Chinese counterpart, Li Keqiang, and sought that country’s support for Vietnam’s vaccine strategy.

Speaking with Li by phone on Friday, he sought to reinforce mutual political trust and discuss means to promote bilateral ties, especially socio-economic, according a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to fight the pandemic.

It aims to procure 150 million doses this year to cover 70% of the population.

It is only looking for more sources to buy but also to transfer technology to produce the vaccine itself.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health approved the emergency use of China's Sinopharm's vaccine.Vero Cell, Inactive, is manufactured by Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China National Biotec Corporation.

This is the third vaccine approved by Vietnam for emergency use after Russia's Sputnik V and the vaccine produced by AstraZeneca of Britain and Sweden.

Li promised to cooperate and support Vietnam in the fight against Covid-19.

He also said that China attaches great importance to relations with Vietnam and is willing to further deepen the friendly neighborly relationship between the two countries in order to bring practical benefits to the two peoples.
