All restaurant, cafe and pub staff have to wear masks and customers must sit a meter apart starting Wednesday, Hanoi has ordered.

"Starting midnight on August 19, food and beverage places must arrange seats at least a meter from each other, partitions are encouraged.Employees must wear masks and take the temperature of customers," Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy said at a meeting on Covid-19 prevention on Monday.

He said the beer bar is a crowded place with many potential risks of infection.

Mr. Quy added that there may be more cases in Hanoi than the number of cases, but the risk of a large-scale outbreak is not high.“The city's Covid-19 containment measures are still keeping things under control."

Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Suu has asked local authorities to mobilize more staff to monitor restaurants and beer pubs.He said any business that violates pandemic control measures will face closure penalties.

Mr. Suu advised Hanoians not to go out unless absolutely necessary and to wear masks in public.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) Truong Quang Viet said some people have become complacent and ignore disease prevention measures.

CDC inspections have found that mask wearing and disinfection measures in offices have not been fully implemented, and some offices have not put in place a response plan if an infection is found in the office. Workplace.

The CDC has suggested testing Covid-19 on elderly people living in nursing homes and patients with multiple underlying medical conditions currently being treated in hospitals.

Since July 25, starting a new outbreak in Vietnam after 99 days without community transmission, the capital has recorded 33 cases of Covid-19.

Of these, 10 were local infections and the remaining 23 were repatriated citizens who were quarantined upon arrival.

As of Monday, 28,000 of the more than 77,000 people who returned from Da Nang since July 15 had been tested for real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in Hanoi and the results were negative. Results of the rest of the tests are expected to be finalized on Friday.

Vietnam has recorded 976 cases of Covid-19, of which 487 are active patients. To date, there have been 24 deaths.
